Middlesex UKPSF Recognition Scheme (MURS)

Professional l Standards Framework (UKPSF) provides a national framework to recognise and benchmark learning and teaching across the UK, clarifying the standards of teaching and supporting learning in higher education.

The UKPSF identifies three ‘dimensions’ within the framework; Areas of Activity, Core Knowledge and Professional Values. These capture common practice within teaching and supporting learning and relate to the professional values and core knowledge required to support them. The framework also has four ‘descriptors’ or categories of Fellowship (Associate Fellowship at D1, Fellowship at D2, Senior Fellowship at D3 and Principal Fellowship at D4). All applications require evidence of the dimensions to differing degrees depending on the category of Fellowship.

From September 2015 Middlesex University UKPSF Recognition Scheme (MURS) is approved to award Fellowship at all four categories via a CPD route:
  • Associate Fellow (D1)
  • Fellow (D2)
  • Senior Fellow (D3)
  • Principal Fellow (D4)

This compliments the taught route via the Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education which maps to Associate Fellow (D1) and Fellow (D2).

The successful achievement of HEA accreditation ensures that the University can recognise outstanding teaching practice and also provide a route to Fellowship for those colleagues with significant prior experience, but no official teaching qualification.

All staff wishing to apply for any of the categories are supported by comprehensive online materials available via CAPE Staff Development Portal (see the menu below), dedicated workshops and one to one support where needed.
