Digital Badges for key nursing skills – Georgina Cox (BSc Nursing, Middlesex University and John Parkinson (CAPE).

In recognition of an opportunity to enhance both engagement with and credentialing for key nursing skills for learners undertaking study on the BSc Nursing programme Principal Lecturer Georgina Cox and CAPE academic developer John Parkinson are introducing Digital Badges as an awarding system this year. The project has involved the creation of an appropriately designed ‘constellation’ of digital badge awards targeted at skills hitherto under-represented within a learners final award, alongside an strategy for the release of these portable credentials.

This intervention is currently confined to the Middlesex University BSc Nursing programme, but it is hypothesised that these awards have the potential to gain endorsement from and adoption by partner institutions and regulating bodies within the Nursing sector.
